Takata has agreed to plead guilty to a criminal charge of wire fraud will pay $1 B in fines and restitution for its running saga to hide deadly defects in its ammonia nitrate air bag inflators. Three former executives have also been indicted. Each is faced with six counts of conspiracy and wire fraud. All three are now in Japan and the US government will request their extradition to the US for trial.
The problem stem from deterioration of the chemicals over time and burn too fast, blowing apart a metal canister. The NHTSA is currently involved in the largest recall in history.
This case reminds me of Fukushima or WW2 Comfort Women. Typical initial response is always to deny, deny, deny.
